Overview
Amazing how a little bit of timber and some finesse behind the throttle can put a big engine back on the track. I think it would be harder to replicate this trick in G scale than real life. I'm not sure I would be able to get back up after lying on the ground to put my scale 4x4 and shims under my F3.
The person filming this is a retired railman. He does a good job of letting us know just what these guys are up too. Let me know if you decide to try this trick on your layout. I would love to have video of it.
re-railing
Wow, interesting piece of railroading I wasn't familiar with. Thanks. Made me nervous watching that guy reaching under and around the wheels!

Derail
I was on a train crew in Austin TX in 1991 when we had to re-rail some cars the same way with oak wedge blocks.
They blamed me because earlier in the day I asked how often they had derailments on this poor track; they said they never say "derail" as it was bad luck.
