Garden Trains : How to use Bridges on Your Garden Railroad
This year we are going to need to build a few bridges on the BIGD Railroad. What kind of wood should we use? How about cement? Should we buy plans, or can we just figure it out ourselves? What have you done, and what other questions to do have?

Putting buildings outside can create a challenge to keep them looking good. I know that many of our buildings are made of heavy plastic, some are made of wood. They have lasted for several years outside, but we do take them in for the winter. Which give us another problem – a town or two of large scale buildings can take up a lot of space to store. So what do you use, wood, plastic, cement or what? Do your store your buildings at specific time during the year? How do you keep them from blowing away? Do you light your buildings and if you do – how?

Garden Trains : How do I Figure out Grades on my Garden Railroad?
Some railroads are flat, some are not. What kind of grade should you have on yours? If you do have a grade on your railroad what did you learn before, during and after you installed it? Is there a reason that you have a grade or lack thereof?

Garden Trains : Running Live Steam Engines in the Garden.
We have had a little Ruby live steam engine for a few years and enjoy running it. There is something very pleasing about adding some water, gas and a little flame to make your train run. It is about as close to real railroading as you can get. Could you imagine pouring some diesel into your train before starting up the motor! So if you are not into live steam what is keeping you from getting started and giving it a try?

Garden Trains : Why did you get Started in Garden Trains?
If you are reading this you must be involved or interested in getting involved in some way in Large Scale Garden Trains. But why? Do you do it for the kids, grandkids? Because you have always had a train set. You like building, or just running trains? There are so many reasons to get started.

Garden Trains : How Important are Kadee Couplers?
So what is the story with Kadee Couplers. Can't I just use the ones that come on the trains I purchase? You can but each manufacturer does not use the same coupler. They are similar, but sometimes they can give problems working together.

Bridges are a one of those items that just adds something great to a railroad. If you need to get over some water, there really is no other fast way. So do you have a bridge on your railroad? If you do, what is it made of? Who made it? What is it going over? What type of bridge is it? Don't have one -- why? Are you going to install one, make one? Bridges, we don't need no stinking bridges...

Garden Trains : Who Makes the Best Garden Trains?
Each year there are new products on the market we can not live without. As we buy more engines, and boxcars and buildings we get more familiar with what is great and what is good. Who do you think the best manufacturer is and why? Was it the products, the support, the price? Sure there are the big guys, but don't forget the little guys too.

Garden Trains: Future of Large Scale: Youth?
Are their young engineers frequenting your railroad? As in all other hobbies, the young are the future of our hobby. We need to encourage their early participation so they will have the desire to be active on their own in the future. How old were you when you got interested in railroading? Did someone encourage you? Who are you going to encourage?

So you have been doing this for a few months or a few years. Each one of us had done something that we wish we had not done with our Large Scale Railroad. Was it something you purchased? Was it something that you did? Was it something that you wished you had done? Get honest and let us know. We might just be able to learn from your mistake.
