OverviewIt is July 28, 2003, and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Blue Unit Circus Train is traveling from New Orleans to Dallas. In this sequence it crosses the Huey Long Bridge over the Mississippi. This bridge is 135 feet above the river.

The distinctive rail structure opened in 1935 and is 22,996 feet long.

The highway structure is 8,076 feet long with extremely steep grades on both sides. Each roadway deck is a precarious 18 feet wide, with 2 9-foot lanes, but because of the railroad component, is unusually flat for a bridge of this height. Normally, bridges this high have a hump to accommodate the height but this bridge is flat to accommodate rail traffic.
