OverviewPikes Peak is named for Zebulon Pike, an early explorer of the Southwest. The founder of the Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway was a Mr. Zalmon Simmons, owner of the Simmons Mattress Company. In 1889, the Manitou & Pike's Peak Railway Company track construction began.

On the afternoon of June 30th, 1891, the first passenger train, carrying a church choir from Denver, made it to the summit.

At the 1:50 mark, one of the workers is smiling as he tries to climb out of the hole as the plow approaches. I'm thinking screaming for help is more appropriate.
