Coupling a Train With Trust

I know it's supposed to be a safe procedure but I'm not sure I trust a mechanical engineer or train engineer that much.

OverviewThe engineer and brakeman must be the best of friends. I'm not going to stand between a car and engine no matter how safe they tell me it is. Even if I had a best friend, he would have to be the one in the pit. He could trust me more than I would trust him.

The U.S. Safety Appliance Act, effective date 1900, reduced coupling accidents from 38% of all accidents to 4% of all accidents in just two years by using the Janney coupler. This may be comparing apples and oranges type couplers.

But that's better than applesauce and orange juice.
