If this videos doesn't want to make you get a steam locomotive, I don't know what will. A beautiful 4-8-4+4-8-4 running in the snow.

OverviewThe history of the Garratt locomotive goes back to 1907 when William Garratt patented his articulated locomotive design. The 4-8-4 + 4-8-4 weighed in at over 260 tons with over 63,000 pounds of tractive effort.

There are 4, 1:1 scale engines left in museums in Australia. The Australian Railway Historical Society in Canberra is in the process of restoring engine 6029.

"Project 6029" was started in 2007 and when completed, it will be the largest operating locomotive in the southern hemisphere.
