In keeping with Raised Railroads, here is another one that may spark an idea for your layout. The train runs smoothly on this craftsman's wood planking.

Overview
This raised track work appears to be meticulously built. The train runs smoothly. The operator must feel very confident with his work. That beautiful train is very high in the air and it gathers some speed as the video progresses.

There is a nice station in the air at the end of the video. Hope this helps your thoughts about how to get your railroad "off the ground."

danger of derail?
One of our club members also has a raised wood track bed. At our last gathering a mystery derailment caused his climax to go crashing head first into the concrete 36" below. Seems like some sort of 'railing' is needed to catch a locomotive or car before it runs out into falling space...

Elevated Railroad
Very good idea, especially for those of us who have back and knee issues. Some type of metal pins with holes that will allow you to thread a very small cable or wire to protect those expensive engines from taking a dive might help.If done with care it shouldn't distract from the beautiful work you have already done. I really like your layout.
