Ballast Train

This video has prototypical movement of ballast to the worksite. And a lot of patiences and good back and knees.

OverviewI feel guilty after watching this video. Meticulously placing ballast by small shovel full's versus my technique of dumping my 1/4 minus from a bucket onto my track and then brushing it.

My knees started to hurt after watching this video. I think I used to be able to crouch that long. I just don't remember.

Manual ballasting
I started off using hopper cars and after a half hour or so of loading three cars, driving back to the job site, dumping and spreading (similar to the guy in this video) I decided to skip the "prototypical" stuff and use a bucket and a cut-down paint brush. MUCH faster :-)
