Overview |
Danbury, CT - Postal workers adopted the orphaned mongrel and let the dog ride atop
mail in horse-drawn wagons that hauled sacks of letters from the post
office two blocks to Union Station on Broadway.
Soon,
his horizons expanded as Owney was allowed to ride mail trains hither
and yon. Before turning him loose, Albany postal clerks bought him a
collar with a return address: "Owney, Post Office, Albany, New York."
Owney Day is planned for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Danbury Railway Museum. |
