I've updated the list with your sugesstions. It's time to start planning a road trip to a Father's Day Train Event. Here are just a few suggestions to get you started.

If you don't feel like cleaning track, charging your batteries or getting a head of steam up for a Father's Day celebration, then it's time to start making some plans.
Father's Day seems to get more train press than Mother's Day. We all know that Garden Railroading is non-discriminating as to who participates.
So let's use Father's Day weekend as an excuse to celebrate trains. Here are just a few ideas out of the myriad of possibilities. I've included locations in the USA, Canada and the UK.
June 16th-17th, Perris CA
Orange Empire Railway Museum.
"Join Dad for a ride into the past on the Big Red Cars of the Pacific Electric. Although we operate selected PE cars throughout the year, this is the weekend when we have the largest group of Big Red Cars of the Pacific Electric out to ride and photograph.
Once again this year the Southern California Traction Club on hand with their giant HO Scale model trolley layout.
On Sunday we'll also have a family barbeque from Noon-2 pm. Admission to the grounds is free, regular prices apply for train ride tickets ($12 adults, $8 children 5-11). Advance paid reservations are required for the BBQ." Orange Empire Railway Museum

N.C. Transportation Museum.
For the first time since 1994, you can ride behind a real coal-fired steam locomotive on mainline tracks in North Carolina when the N.C. Transportation Museum hosts passenger train excursions June 16 and 17. Part of the 21st Century Steam program, the trips are being offered in cooperation with Norfolk Southern Corp. and the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.
Three one and a half hour round trip journeys will be offered each day from the N.C. Transportation Museum to the town of Barber, N.C. and back. Power will be a genuine Southern Railway steam locomotive, No. 630, built in 1904 and once used to pull freight trains in North Carolina.

Thanks Warren, The Orange Empire Railroad Museum is a great place. I had the great fortune to operate the Diesel Switcher before I moved to Washington. Worth the trip no matter how far away your are. |

Places to visit |
The Taltree Arboretum in Valparaiso Indiana has a terrific new display with multiple trains dipicting the steam era from 1830 to 1930. The walkway around it is over 600 feet long. There are 830 tons of rock making up the scenery with beautiful canyons and water features. The trestlework is incredible made out of plastic decking strips and many hundreds of feet of track with multiple trains running. It is well worth the $8 (over 55) entry fee. Architects took 6 years to design and 2 years to build. This is only the second season for it. Try not to miss this one. |
