Overview

Garden railroading combines the best of landscaping, gardening and large-scale model trains.

Here are some tips from Doug Blaine of Bachmann Trains, which produces many kinds of trains:

* Set up your train in a section of the yard that's at least 72 square feet, relatively flat, with little foot traffic and close to an electrical source.

* Any large-scale starter set that includes enough brass or stainless steel track to make a simple 12-foot circle is ideal for beginners.

More tips are in the full story.

the old saying of " you get what you pay for " erally applies with garden trains ..... get the best you can..... cheap may work for awhile but you wont be happy for long. I wont recommend any particular " brand" but do some research and talk to people in the hobby who have experience with various ones . Many people say make sure you get sound-- well sound is nice but can be annnoying after awhile ... Use a particular coupler ... thereagain- its all personal taste... dont be " swayed" - learn to listen but also " just do it " .. Carl Kokes
