Overview | "This summer's heat and drought are not just an expression of the vagaries of Mother Nature - we have seen hot dry weather before. The heat and drought may be the standard for summers to come."
"High temperatures kill plant roots. That makes it vital to keep summertime gardens well mulched, not just to help soil hold moisture, but to moderate soil temperature in an effort to protect plants' roots from extreme heat." |

who knew that this summer would be a " killer summer " for the heat etc . Even things that would normally would thrive in the summer heat did not do well - even here in the northern New York area. Our temps have been extremely high . When IMPATIENCE dont do well, there is something wrong ... We watered like crazy but unless you were about standing over the plants with a hose or bucket, they were NOT happy. But hopefully the fall will be gorgeous... and -- WINTER IS coming ... |

How to help plants beat the heat |
I established a drip irrigation system a year or so after I started my layout. I have a main 1/2" line on both the inside and outside of the tracks under the mulch. 1/4" feeder lines branch off to all the plants. All the plants can be watered in an hour and they are watered every other day in above 90 degree weather. |
