garden paths |
I very much agree that a garden path can " lead " people to where you want them to see and also AWAY from where you would rather not have them saunter . When people come to see my train garden I casually point out places that they might like to see and if I see someone starting to try going into the layout itself I am rather pointed about calling out "please dont go there ". I also put up some " barriers" that say NO !!! Most people dont deliberately walk where not invited BUT I think with the amount of work I put in to the train garden I can be vocal.... CTK |

Plants, paths etc. |
What's up with all this stuff lately on plants, trees, paths and such? What happened to stuff on TRAINS? |

Gee. Don't we call them garden trains |
I thought we were in the business of GardenTrains, garden railroads, garden railways. I don't know about you but I don't have my loop of tracks sitting on cement. If you're not interested in articles about plants or landscaping, just don't read them. |

Garden Trains |
At least half of outdoor trains is usually plants, water features etc. |

Paths |
I have thought about putting in paths, but I cannot decide on what I want. I usually walk around in my bare feet, so I would need a path that would be comfortable to walk on in my bare feet, yet durable enough to survive outside. So, for now, paths are not on the to do list. |

I very much appreciate the diversity of the presentations both in Garden Railways and LSOL for Trains AND Gardens (paths, plants, waterfalls, etc.). I thought our hobby was GARDEN railroads and that includes a scope of ideas, talents, and individual accomplishments in Trains and related fields. I say keep up the good work with the related stories and help us make our layouts even better. CBNQ-Barstow, IL |

This was a fascinating article, but as I had my other half come and preview many of the ideas, we discussed the "non-working" aspect of them in FL. The one we had tried was the cement molding of stones. Once you reached the side, they became "ankle breakers". So much of the wood would NOT hold up in our environment, even tho they look great...So, it has always been a challenge to come up with something for our back yard.. To date, nothing has. Even normal pavers had something bad about them appear over time. The grass looks great divided by something else, but again, we did away with grass "years ago", so don't even own a mower any longer.. I guess we will continue to check things out as new ideas appear.. |
