Bachmann Annouces New Brass Track
What rail code is it; Code 215, 250, 300, 350?
Ron Proffitt - 02/24/2012 - 13:44

Track
Its nice to see them selling something other then that tinplate track. Looking at the pictures though, I wonder what they are trying to represent with those ties. They look awfully small and far apart for mainline track, so I guess they are trying to represent some kind of narrow gauge track. Also they do not list a code, so are we to assume its code 332. I would rather not assume anything, it would be nice if they stated a code.

But, again, its nice to see someone else making (usable) track for garden railways.

Backmann's Brass Tacks
Not stated but I wonder if this new track is compatible with all other brass rail/tracks. Of course, what rail Code is this? Frankly, I am disappointed that more aluminum track in various codes are not available. I use Code 250, which is splendiferous outside. Looks real.

Brass Track
Ron, Bachmann does not say on the website what code scale the rail is so your guess is as good as mine. To bad they do not offer flex track. Maybe they will in the future. It would be good to compare apples to apples with Aristo Craft.

Bachmann Brass Track
What in the world are they thinking? No switches and this track doesn't match anything visually! Details are important but won't matter much. It obviously is no scale that I recognize and at $300 a circle there is no way I will use this track as long as I can find Aristo or LGB. I would go back to handlaying. Somebody really blew it.
Warner Swarner - 02/24/2012 - 20:45

Judgment
I am going to withold judgment until I can see and touch the track, which should be soon as they are sending us samples.

Everyone poo pood the AMS track as it was not the right code and then we all found out the tolerances on USA and Aristo were no better or worse. Also once the track was outside for six months and cover with gravel, you really had to look to see a difference.

Switches.... They will come...

Jon DeKeles - 02/24/2012 - 21:02

It's On Display At Greenberg Show
I was able to see and inspect the new track during set-up today for the Greenberg Show at Virginia Beach, VA.

The track is code 332. Has the exact same rail joiners as Aristo-Craft track. Has the hex head stainless screws for the rail joiners. Tie strips look good and are American standard gauge type ties. My guess, after looking at the track, is that it's made in the same facility as Aristo-Craft track.

Star Hobby had the track. Price is less than Aristo or USA Trains. At least it is the way Star Hobby had theirs priced. Problem I see is the limited radius available. Nothing over 8' diameter (4' radius).

Most Bachmann equipment will operate on 8' diameter. However their K-27 won't and the Connie sure doesn't "like" going around that tight radius. My 2-6-6-2T will handle 8' diameter but it sure looks odd on a curve that tight.

Time will tell if this track turns out to be a good seller for Bachmann. At least now we have another choice when it comes to brass track.

If the price holds I would think that Bachmann has a market for this track at its price point.

Thanks JD!
Thanks JD for clearing the air with eye-withess details. I also agree with Jon. . . let time be the judge.

Price Of Bachmann Track
As most of us must know by now, MSRP is not the street price. So don't jump to conclusions on the price of this track. As stated in an earlier post the dealer that had the track had it priced below what you would pay for similar lengths of Aristo or USAT's track.

Interesting to note all the speculation and statements made when none of the folks had yet seen the track. The track sure looks a lot better in person than the less than good detail in the pictures that Bachmann released.

Hold your judgement until you actually see and can inspect the track. Drawing conclusions from less than detailed pictures serves no real purpose.

Anti-Bachmann Bias
Gee, do I detect a bit of anti-Bachmann bias? Naw, it's probably my imagination. This seems to surface from some people every time Bachmann releases something. It's never good enough for them, and wouldn't be even if it was the best detailed, highest quality product and still the cheapest thing on the market.

Like others have mentioned, it would be good if we waited to slam them until all of the FACTS were out. But that will probably never happen.

bachmann
I feel the same as a few others --- if a company, regardless of WHO it is, offeres something new, IMMEDIATLY, those who seem to be the ' guru's" start in with are they giong to make this and that ? are they going to improve on thus and such.. give us a break - Bachmann finally came out with BRASS TRACK - so the ties are a little apart - is that going to ruin your railroad ??? Oh, they dont have flex track ??? WELL !!!!!!

I agree will Bill W., nothing ever seems GOOD ENOUGH.
