Mattel to buy Thomas the Tank Engine

The maker of the Barbie doll, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price toys is buying HIT in a $680m cash deal. It means Mattel will now own all the rights to Thomas the Tank Engine.

| So, When Mattel obtains the rights to Thomas, will Bachmann still produce the Thomas sets in large scale? If not, maybe we should buy a few sets and squirrel them away for when they are no longer available. I wonder how good a Fisher-Price large scale train would be. Just wondering, I am sure Bachmann's contract to produce the Thomas line will be in place for a long time. Bachmann wouldn't have invested the money in making the molds and tooling, unless they knew they would see a profit. |
