52-year-old father of two sons (Chris & Steven) who with wife Lorna make up the controlling interests in the NMRA pike registered, D B & M RR (Dad Boys and Mom Rail Road). Over the last 20 odd years the family has played various roles in first the HO scale and now larger G scale version of the D B & M. The large scale is only a year old but the plans for expansion are well under way. Friends, family, neighbours and the members of the Rocky Mountain Garden Rail Road are supplying both inspiration and assistance as the layout grows.
Scotty is a 30 + year veteran of the Canadian health care system and 35 + year member of Scouts Canada who had his interest in model railroading tweaked in his youth in northern Alberta. It was an S scale layout, which was set up around the rotund coal-burning furnace in a dank and dark basement. Once his own children reached Scouting age, layouts were established for both members of Scouting and at his own home. The Scouting connection with Model Railroading has slid into history (The Green Horn Shortline) but the Canadian "MOJOMAN" Scouter and model railroader has friends in all corners of the railroading and Scouting worlds. Truly a great blend of a fine youth organization and love of railroad heritage.
Whenever he needs a reminder of why he devotes his time to this hobby, he just closes his eyes and thinks back to his youth. Back to the dank basement where,
"When the train emerged from the back side of the huge black warm furnace, clickity clack, clickity clack, with the light glowing and smoke pouring from the stack... it was magic!"
"
A magic that still reigns in his steam era HO logging and new G scale steam layouts.
Scotty proudly works for the Calgary health region as the Regional Quality Improvement Consultant for the Departments of Surgery and Anaesthesia.
