I have been involved with trains most of my life but only with railway modeling since being given a train set at the age of 10. This time of railway modelling was if you couldn't afford it. (As money was very short in the house) You attempted to build it and I must admit that some of the layout signalling was a little (sorry, a lot) out of scale. The globes were out of cycle lamps and the lenses out of cellophane plastic. I was still proud of the outcome. After all isn't that what real modelling is all about, satisfying yourself FIRST.
After quite a few years I was involved in the Newcastle N Gauge Club and had a reality check with regards to scale modeling.
The N Gauge part of my life lasted about 6 years until moving up to the BIG BOYS, HO scale. HO saw me involved in a new club for a few years and a great deal of fun but as Secretary again, I became burnt out and walked away from the hobby.
I am pleased to say that since retiring in 2000 I was drawn back in 2001 and started in On30. The new availability of this gauge locomotives and rolling stock was very good and I set about hand laying a new code 70 layout.
I was asked to go and have a look at a garden layout by a club member and I am sure that he knew what the outcome would be. Here I am playing with real trains.
Being in the engineering trades all of my working life I decided to buy a lathe and start building a live steam gauge one locomotive. I now have six on the go. Oh well it keeps the brain cells moving around. I am building a new layout in the backyard and I will share it with you all as it grows.
I am always ready to converse with other gauge oners so feel free to contact me.
