VIDEO: Outside/In! Aristo-Craft SD-45 Wide Screen - HD
Feb 24, 2010

By Jon DeKeles
Author  Bio
The Aristo-Craft EMD SD-45 is an old work horse on many of our railroad. It does such a great job that sometimes it gets forgotten. We thought we would take a look at a current SD-45 in one of the new roadnames from Aristo-Craft.

OverviewThis wide screen, high definition video will not only show you the outside of the unit in detail, we will also open the unit up and take you inside for a detailed look at all the electronics that make up this high quality engine.

We will also show you how easy it is to install the Aristo-Craft Train Engineer Revolution remote control.

SD45
Excellent Video! I think I own the USA Trains version of this. It's an SD45 MAC in the Alaska RR colors. Seeing this video was an eye opener as to how easy it will be to add the remote control system. Thanks for the information.

a few points
It was neat to see that the fans were molded with actual separate and free moving fan disks and see-through fan grills. Seeing how the speaker was mounted it will definitely need an enclosure since when looking at the back of the speaker you can see right out of the fans. I also wonder about the mounting of the revolution receiver, it plugs into the board in the top of the locomotive, so when running the revolution is hanging below the locomotive's "main board". I would think that some kind of fastener would be prudent here, like maybe a barely snug tie wrap around both boards. The locomotive will experience vibrations while running and I see the potential for the revolution to, over time, work itself loose and no longer be reliable. Looks like a great locomotive, but my shop crew would be really upset if I brought a modern (post 1950) diesel into the engine shed.

SD-45
Great video and good looking loco. I agree with David, however, nothing after 1954 will run on my railroad. At least that limits somewhat how much I spend on the railroad. ;+)

Can't wait for the ECLSTS next month. I see that USA Trains is finally releasing their center cupola caboose next month. Hopefully, Jo Anne will have one of the Brown NYC ones.
