The Brickyard Railroad Tour
Aug 18, 2011

Author  Bio
Last week Rich Johnson shared the trials and tribulations of The Brickyard RR. This week we get to ride #21 from Moccasin Gap to San Jose.

Brickyard RR Tour

We are loosely representing where the South Pacific Railroad ran on the east side of the San Francisco Bay Area from Newark to Felton. Our time frame is before 1960.

You will find that our scale is 1:20.3 for the Locos and 1:24 for the rolling stock. The buildings and people vary from 1:24 to 1:29.

I made the Moccasin Gap Roundhouse from HO plans scaled up to 1:20.3.

All Aboard!

We will start at the Moccasin Gap yards. The loco #21 a 10 wheeler has been assigned to a Southbound Passenger Train and is ready to go. So sit back enjoy the ride to see our miniature world.

Our train is leaving the yards going past the engine facilities and Kehoe. This is a small area that will receive tank cars for fueling.

We are heading for Weehoose across the lift out.

The Weehoose is used as a staging track for the in and outbound trains. Our journey will continue to the outside track where we can change directions and back down to the lay out.

This track has been extended for another 25 feet.

This is the first part of the ride down the fence to the corner.

Now we continue down to San Jose.

We finally made it to the backside of San Jose. We will change directions once again and begin our journey to Drawbridge.

The buildings are bird houses from the garden department of the local Rite-Aid.

From Drawbridge we move on to Newark.
This is a freight stop for both north and southbound trains. It is also a passenger stop. Water and Coal are also available for the locos.

Ranch is next where we have a stockyard and stock cars are dropped off or picked up as needed.

Crossing the valley we head toward the Coast.

Beach is a tourist stop with plenty of things to see and do in the area.

Because the turnouts are just out of reach I have powered them with a 12v gel cell. The panel in the upper right of the photo is where the turnouts are operated from.

The next stop is Felton. This is only a quick flag stop for passengers.

Our train slows down for a view of Lexington Lake.

This is Los Gatos a small remote town that has all the amenities for our travelers.

It has been said on a clear day you can see Cousin Randy out at his still in the woods as we pass buy. I really don't understand why the church folks have not caught on yet.

Welcome to San Jose. This is a freight stop as well as a passenger stop.

If you stay with the train we will go around once more and switch at upper Los Gatos for our return trip up to the Moccasin Gap.

Thanks for traveling with us.
