Phoenix Sound Systems has just completed the re-mastering and overall re-engineering of their diesel sound files, which are now available for download from their website. (Phoenix Sound Systems)

The new files are labeled version 7605.  During this process they have also added several new diesel ROM files and added features to the existing sound sets as well. The most notable added feature is that of REV WANDERING.

Rev Wandering

This effect simulates the prime mover adjusting to work load variations, such as uneven terrain, while trying to maintain a constant train speed. The rev level may wander up and down the amount selected over the period. They feel the addition of this feature will heighten the realism of the locomotive sound.

The Rev may wander may be set to 'None' [OFF], '±1 rev' or '±2 revs'. Rev wandering is set to 'None' by default. The Computer Interface is needed to change the settings for this feature.
The amount of time between changes in the rev level based upon the Rev Wandering setting. If Rev Wander Randomization is set, then the Rev Wander may or may not occur within the time frame of (Period ± Randomization). Once the Wander has occurred or the calculated time frame has elapsed (if no wander occurs) a new time frame is calculated and the wander process begins again.

This feature is available starting with ROM file release version 7605.

A summary of updates from Phoenix Sound Systems:

  • New horns added. Complete new horn information can be found on their website in the Sound Library. (Phoenix Sound Systems)
    • Several ROM files have had their horns shifted, for example the GP38 now has the Nathan K3LA horn, the Nathan M3H that was previously in the GP38 can now be found in the SD45 ROM.
    • The most notable new horn is the Leslie S3L, which is in the GP9 and F7 sounds.
  • Many of the new ROM files contain only one horn, as a result additional ROM files are available with alternate horns.
  • SD45 (Nathan M3H horn) replaces TURBO.
  • NW2 (single chime) added.
  • GP40 (Nathan P3 horn) added.
  • F3 is an F series with single chime horn.
  • F7 is the F series with the Leslie S3L horn.
  • Rev Wandering feature added to Diesels. See 'Feature Spotlight' on website support section for details.
  • New whine technology implemented in many of the sound sets which effects Turbocharger and Roots Blower sound performance
