There were a large number of entries in the model contest and the judging began at 11:00 on Saturday. The models were all very good again this year so it was difficult for the judges to rank the offerings. The winners were announced and the ribbons place on the winners entries around 3:00 in the afternoon.

The "Best of Show" was awarded to Mike Peterlin who entered in the Kitbashing Self-Propelled category. The model was of an open cab two-truck Shay.

The "First Place Overall Show" award went to Craig Zehner for his diorama of "Captain Hook's Repairs" repair facility. Like all of his dioramas, it was filled with detail.

Taking "Second Place Overall Show" was Dean Sleeper with his reproduction of a Boston & Albany turntable and pit with a fully detailed and weathered Ten-Wheeler. His entry was in the diorama category.

Third Place Overall Show" was captured by Matt Vogt with his Logging Caboose in the scratchbuilt rolling stock category. The caboose had a fully detailed interior with a railroad man warming his hands at the wood stove.

An entry that caught our eye was a Warren Truss Bridge built by Louis Steffenhagen. The bridge won First Place in the Kitbashed Structure category and started with a Plastruct kit in 1/24 scale. Louis bashed it into a highly detailed 1/29 scale bridge. This was Louis's first attempt at modeling in Large Scale. He built it because he needed a bridge for a place on his outdoor railroad that he is in the early stages of construction. The details and painting were phenomenal. Louis even supplied a mirror placed under the bridge so that the detail on the underside of the bridge was visible. He told us that the complete rivet detail was done by cutting them from the sides of boxcars and gluing them in place on the bridge.

Thanks for the compliments Noel. There was alot of 1st's here. 1st Large Scale model, 1st time entering, 1st time winning (1st place in the category)1st time being published on line. It was also my grandsons 1st birthday. Just need to clarify one thing. The gusset plates rivets were done by hand using a punch. The simulated bolts on all the handrail posts were cut from old Aristo craft box cars. (all 456 of them)
