Making Accessories on the Cheap

What I can start to do is help you save money by showing you how to create some ofthese accessories for yourself.

More and more I see people trying to sell things on eBay for inflated prices. It drives me crazy. What I can start to do is help you save money by showing you how to create some ofthese accessories for yourself.

I asked Jon to help me out by creating some artwork using AdobePhotoShop. This way you could just download and print some pagesfor free instead of getting the opportunity to over pay at eBay.

The first items I wanted to show you were some crates that I useon our Large Scale Railroad. There is nothing worse that having a empty pick-up truck, or a loading dock with nothing on it.

These crates can be made by just folding up the printed page. If you do that I would suggest that you print the page on a heavier cardstock paper. It will make it easier to glue the box together.

The option I will show you here uses some simple pre-cut boxes that you can find at any Michael's craft store, or your local craft location.

The first thing that you want to do is to download and print out the pages I have created that will give your box a finished look. You can find these at Box PDF Download

I have created three different sizes for you. A 3/4" size box, a 1" box and a 2" box.

If you are going to just fold the boxes together you will need to cut out the boxes on the outline of the print out. You can see from the pictures how to fold the box together. You can slip the tabs into each other and glue one to the other.

If you are going to use a wooden block please note in the picture that you will need to remove two of the tabs so that they do not overlap when gluing the artwork to the wooden block.

Please remember that these crates should not be left outside in the weather. They are like many of the items I have on our railroad that we take out when we run, but put away when we are done.

Have fun. If any of you are artistic and create your own printed boxes send me a copy and we can share them with other Members. Look for some more simple ideas that will make your layout more realistic, for a non-eBay price.

These pictures should tell you the rest of the story.

The smaller crates will be in future story.
