5 Minute Project: Track Stops

While rearranging the 4'x8' table I use to store some of my rolling stock on, I realized I needed new end of track stops or I would have to buy some new end of track bumpers.

While rearranging the 4'x8' table I use to store some of my rolling stock on, I realized I needed new end of track stops or I would have to buy some new end of track bumpers. There is nothing worse than to have one of your cars go just a little too far and end up on the floor.

Realizing what the last batch cost me, I started tinkering with some cedar strips I had in a 5-gallon bucket I had next to my workbench.

After a couple of cuts on the Dremel 4" table saw, I came up with something that looked right (10 foot rule of course).

A little Titebond ll glue and a couple of clamps and I had an inexpensive (cheap) end of track stops.

The two small parts came out at 1/2" x 1/2" x 1 1/2" and fit snuggly between the ties. The top piece came out at 1/2" x 1/2" x 3 1/2".

Just glue them all together and clamp them. Bingo, you're done! Of course ya could sand them down, stain them, paint them or if all else fails, use them for railroad ties on your layout.

Track Stops
Thanks for the neat idea, Rick. I need some stops on some sidings and this looks like a good way to keep things from going too far.

End of Track Bunpers
Rick: You certainly have applied the 'kiss' principle with this project...and one could 'crank out' several in a short period of time. Great idea. Tnx.

Track stops
A long time ago, I read an article where a person used the plastic ties from a section of LGB track to make a bumper. I think it was in Garden Railways magazine. Following his plans, I made mine from 5/16 square strips of red cedar. It took longer than 5 minutes, but they look and work great.
